Understanding sexual attacks : a study based upon a group of rapists undergoing psychotherapy

D. West, C. Roy, F. Nichols

Men who commit heinous sexual crimes receive little consideration even from those generally sympathetic towards the personal problems of offenders. Given the opportunity to get to know a group of these men undergoing intensive psychotherapy in a Canadian prison hospital, Dr. West shows that their behaviouris less incomprehensible and their motives less alien than commonly supposed. While in no way underestimating the full horror of their crimes, which are set out with devastating frankness, he relates with equal realism the tragic life experiences and emotional maldevelopment that produced their otherwise inexplicable outbursts. With a few entries on homosexuality, transsexuality and incest in the index.
