Overview of this year's meeting of the Third Committee, october-november 2008. A number of the Special Procedures recently appointed by the Human Rights Council presented their reports. Sexual orientation and/or gender identity issues were addressed by three Special Procedures: on human rights and extreme poverty, human rights defenders, and health. A number of States also addressed these issues during interactive dialogue and general discussion, particularly with the Special Rapporteur on human rights defenders.
