Butch-Femme interrupted : Angelina Jolie, bisexuality and the new butch femme / Cristina Stasia
C. Stasia
"Butch-Femme Interrupted: Angelina Jolie, Bisexuality and the New Butch Femme" argues that butch-femme has undergone a transformation and has collapsed from exclusively a relation of two stable, defined identities into a single identity: the butch femme. Angelina Jolie's star text and films are material evidence of this new butch femme subjectivity, and the sexual implications of this emerging identity, which is both an empowering visibility for bisexuality and a move into queer sexuality. Through a detailed analysis of Jolie's startext and her films Foxfire (1996) and Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), I analyze the appearance and sexuality of the butch femme. I conclude by considering the implications of this identity as the butch femme gains cultural currency.[Copies are available from: Haworth Document Delivery Center.
