Redistricting: a strategy memo for the GLBT community

R. Bailey, G. Magpanty, D. Rosenblum

The redrawing of district lines for seats in the US House of Representatives, state legislatures and city councils from 2001-2002 offers both opportunities and risks for the GLBT community, as well as for all groups whose basic rights are contested in political arenas. This memo offers explains redistricting to local and state activists and offers concrete tactics and strategies for working in coalition with civil rights and women's groups to push for progressive districts which make the election of a pro-GLBT candidate more likely. Redistricting: A Strategy Memo provides specific suggestions for documenting GLBT population concentrations so that the GLBT community's interests are taken into account when district lines are drawn.
