A 27-year-old African-American lesbian named Po stars in this narrative of betrayal, kinky sex, religious fanaticism, and the supernatural. After sustaining a serious injury that occurs during an S/M with her lover and receiving a call from her brother telling father's death, Po has herself admitted into a psychiatric hospital. While there, Po revisits her earlier life and relives some of its most vivid events. After a deep and moving exploration of her past and present, Po begins to understand the nature of personal empowerment and the healing process begins.
