Genezen of behandelen? : De invloed van de reclassering en de forensisch psychiater in het strafproces van homoseksuele zedendelinquenten in de periode 1945-1965 / Michiel van Herpen

M. van Herpen

The main question of this thesis is: To what extent could probation officers and forensic psychiatrists influence criminal cases of homosexual sex offenders from 1945 until 1965? I have conducted my research from the perspective of the probation and have looked at the forensic psychiatrist with regard to the cooperation process with the probation officers. Subquestions in this thesis are: how did the expertise of forensic psychiatrists relate to the expertise of probation officers and how did they cooperate? And did social and cultural changes in de late 1950s affect the way forensic psychiatrists and probation officers regarded homosexual sex offenders? In this thesis I have used primary sources (18 client files from the probation archives and furthermore probation magazines) besides other complementary secondary sources.
