Beneath the Surface of Gender Identities A Theological Review and Application of Nate Collins' All But Invisible: Exploring Identity

D. Dunn

To simply suggest that there is a divide between the church and those who identify with the LGBT community would be a drastic understatement. Ever since the sexual revolution of the 1960's, the development and growth of this community has been culturally shaping and expansive. And the chasm between this community and the church seems to be continually growing wider. In All but Invisible: Exploring Identity Questions at the Intersection of Faith, Gender & Sexuality, Nate Collins suggests that there needs to be a change in the way Christians in the church have engaged this conversation. He does not call for a fundamental change to the Biblical understanding of the morality of sexual behavior, nor does he defend the 'agenda' of the LGBT movement, but he challenges the current Christian perspective on sexual identity and calls for a new conversation with freshly defined terminology.
