Isolated lives and a lost world are evoked in this collection of short stories set in the Jewish-Italian community of 1930s Ferrara, examining the the marginalisation of Jews and homosexuals. Included in this volume is a version of the novella 'The Gold-rimmed Eyegalsses'. A homosexual doctor who is flaunting a desperate passion transgresses the threshold of bourgeois tolerance and is expulsed from Ferrera's respectable society.
