The Hill of Devi is a record of two visits Forster made to the Indian State of Dewas Senior, the first in 1912-13 and the second in 1921 as private secretary to the Maharajah of Dewas Senior. This record consist largely of letters written home to his mother, and to other relatives and friends, together with narrative passages commenting on his experiences in India. Much of this material is used in Forster's book, A passage to India.
