A novel about a canoeing trip that four men from suburban Atlanta take through the hills in the northern part of Georgia, where they encounter clannish, primitive people and hazardous natural conditions. This is much more than a terryfying story of violence, murderous violence, sexual violence, and the violence of nature, it is more a study of human beings driven towards the limits of endurance.
