The chameleons : a novel
J. Broderick
A novel set in the world of the middle class in Ireland. This frankly sexual novel tells the story of Julia, the young wife of Michael Glynn, a rich, middle-aged cripple, Stephen, his manservant, and dr. Glynn, Michael's handsome, young nephew. It descripes in anonymous letters, intercepted by Julia in graphic detail Julia sex life with her nephew, Julia uncovers more instances of the sordid life that goes on behind the façade of bourgeois gentility; her husband's relationschip with his manservant, Stephan, and Stephen's strange relationship with a man out of her own past. The climax of the lives of these oddly assorted people takes place on a pelgrimage to Lourdes.
