San Jaime is a fictious Mediterranean island. To San Jaime come Robert Clover after the collapse of a happy marriage which was become futile because of his sterility, but is unbreakable because of his Roman Catholicism and Buck Jones with the recognition that his desires are unalterably homosexual. This is the setting for the tragic yet triumphant story, with its glimpse of paradox and miracle, its insights into love, religion, and the fundamentals of morality.
