Caught in a still place

Jaydie is strong and competent - but distracted, unreachable. Her young daughter Sylvia has been rendered mute by trauma. Elderly Miss Audrey fades in and out; nobody wants to say it, but she's a heavy drag. Julian, the narrator, luxuriates in the new solitude - but he seethes with anger at his lover Richard, who has run away. The little group finds a fragile balance, but this is rocked when Julian and Jaydie become sexually involved. And it's jolted again when lost friends reappear.
