Sexual orientation discrimination: The framework employment directive and beyond : public hearing report
J. Swiebel
On 11 November 2003 the European Parliament's Intergroup for Gay and Lesbian Rights held a one-day public hearing on the implementation of the Employment Framework Directive, that prohibits discrimination on, among other grounds, sexual orientation. Ministers and officials from the member states, MEPs and representatives from EU institutions, experts and NGO's came together to compare notes on what has been accomplished and on what still has to be done. The motive for organizing this hearing was the Intergroups concern that at the eve of the official deadline, 2 December 2003, for the transposition into national law, very few member state and future member states of the EU seemed to have taken the necessary legislative measures. This rapport contains the stories behind these delays.
