This research project has focus on the relevance of butch-femme in the past as well as its present irrelevance in Amsterdam. What this research discovered is that while butch-femme may have made resurgence in the 1980s and 1990s, presently its effects are no longer felt. This paper uses interviews with Dutch lesbians as well as other primary and secondary sources to construct a butch-femme history of the Netherlands leading up to the present time. This paper will attempt to explain why butch-femme is no longer seen as relevant. For this paper there were six interviews with women, among them the photographer Marian Bakker.
