This study focused on the conflict within Dutch gay and lesbian community about the decision to enter into the institution of marriage. Married couples tend to look down upon alternatives, thinking that they are a second class status. In opposition, couples who decided not to get married had a negative view about the traditionalism and heterosexism of the institution of marriage.
