L. Photos

On August 22, 1972, John S. Wojtowicz and two cohorts attempted to rob the Brooklyn branch of the Chase Manhattan Bank to obtain money to pay for a sex-change operation for John_s lover, Ernie. The chaos that resulted became the subject of the 1975 film Dog Day Afternoon, starring Al Pacino as Wojtowicz (whose name in the movie is "Sonny Wortzik"). In the following interview, Wojtowicz explains in greater detail than ever before his personal background, what happened on that hot August day, and what his life has been like since the robbery attempt landed him in prison. In the process Wojtowicz discusses his own and his cultures_ changing attitudes toward bisexuality.[Copies are available from: Haworth Document Delivery Center.
