Library instruction for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered college students

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) students are taking their rightful place on today's campus. LGBT studies are increasingly attracting interest in academic circles among both LGBT and heterosexual scholars. But how well are library services meeting the needs of these user groups? This chapter provides an overview of the experience of LGBT students on college and university campuses, discusses how current academic library collections and services meet their needs, and outlines library instruction strategies that improve access to information on LGBT subjects for all students.
