Unmarried bisexuals: distinct voices on marriage and family

D. Solot, M. Miller

Because some bisexuals can marry their partners while others are legally unable to do so, marriage plays a unique role in the bisexual community. This article discusses qualitative research findings about how bisexuals in unmarried relationships think about marriage. It explores differences between the perspectives of bisexuals in same-sex relationships compared with those in different-sex relationships, and how the experience of having been in both kinds of relationships can affect people. It also considers ways that married bisexuals can be allies with unmarried people in a world that continues to discriminate on the basis of marital status.
