Sexual orientation and young people : facts views and implications for sexual health youth programmes

C. Picavet, J. Reinders

This booklet has a wide cultural scope. It tries to cover common basic premises within the richness of cultures allover the world. The content is based on research findings in both developed and developing countries. Where possible, non-Western sources are used. Unfortunately, information on homosexuality and same-sex practices is scarce in developing countries. The aim is not to assimilate cultures within Western conceptions of homosexuality, but to deal with the realities of sexual health and emotional health within cultures. The way homosexuals are treated in the West is far from perfect and should not be considered the desirable outcome for homosexual emancipation. Early drafts of this booklet have therefore been reviewed by sexual health experts in developing countries and professionals in the field of homosexual emancipation Issues.
