
Homosexuality and the primary school: interviews with individuals challenging the heterosexual presumption

The primary school in an institution where heterosexuality is reproduced and the only valid form of sexuality. Individuals in the Netherlands have recently begun to break the silence that surrounds non-heterosexual relationships in the primary school. Gay and lesbian parents, primary school teachers, local government officials, and educators working on curriculum development have all taken initiatives to undermine the heterosexual presumption. This study examines the efforts of nine such individualsto challenge heterosexism in the Dutch primary school system.
