Articulates why Michel Foucault has become a hero for the gay movement. Looking at the French philosopher's politics and life, Halperin shows how Foucault's writings have been seized upon and turned to, political account in gay/lesbian activism and in the academic discourse known as queer theory, arguing that Foucault's critique advances a radical brand of gay/lesbian politics.
