The goal of this qualitative study was to investigate how lesbian mothers look at their children's sex education. Sixteen mothers with children between 2 and 12 years old were interviewed about the content of sex education in general, division of tasks between the mothers while providing sex education, and age-specific sex education. The results demonstrated that lesbian mothers considered both verbal as non-verbal messages related to sex as ways to provide sex education. There was an equal division of tasks and this division was based on the personality and the past of the mothers. It was also found that mothers told their young children other information than their older children. Finally, lesbian mothers with a son made sure that a male role model was involved in the sex education of their son.
