Roland and Ghislaine are a young couple with unclouded happiness. Or almost, for they have no children, which is very sad. Advised by an old woman, they burn an enormous candle in the chapel erected on an islet of the lake of Aiguebelette. They hope that divine intervention will enable them to give birth to the much-desired child. Now, when they return a few days later to the chapel, it is a little charming Prince of fifteen years who seems to fall from heaven in Adam's uniform. What to think? What to do? They decide to see in this boy their wish fulfilled and adopt him.
