Jack Barrett is a likeable young man, involved so deeply with the law on one side and the blackmailers on the other, that he commits suicide. His death sparks off an investigation which brings into the limelight many prominent people, all of whom have one thing in common: they are homosexuals. For Melville Carr, a successful barrister, this is a crucial mometn. Now, in deciding to help the police in their search for the blackmailers, he is putting his career in jeopardy - for he must reveal that he too was once a homosexual.
