On a November night in Madrid, while Neo-Faschists are noisily honouring Franco's memory, two English strangers meet, attracted to one another by mutual loneliness and desire for adventure. But each finds the subsequent shared pleasures of the night inadequate means of banishing a painful past - an English past, the people and emotions of which are, however, strangely echoed in the Spanish present.
